# This Bitcoin drop is forced selling, not a verdict on value.

**In one line:** A forced-sold candle is not information about value.

**WAKENEX concept:** [Match the feedback to the question](https://wakenex.com/concepts/match-the-feedback-to-the-question/)

![A sunlit cliff edge where a long row of chained stone blocks is being yanked over the brink by the blocks that have already fallen — a forced, self-feeding cascade. Warm golden light against a deep teal sky, with a vivid red-orange glow along the taut chains to signal tension. On-image headline (Chinese): "Not bearish — it's liquidation."](https://wakenex.com/assets/notes/this-bitcoin-drop-is-forced-selling-not-a-verdict-on-value/cover-1600.jpg?v=2290ebe337)

On October 26 Bitcoin broke below $80,000, but the force behind the drop wasn't bears. About $200 million in leveraged long positions were liquidated within a single hour, and total liquidations reached roughly $815 million over 24 hours, up 218% from the day before. A liquidation isn't someone deciding to sell; it's the exchange selling for you, by rule. The further price falls, the more liquidations trigger, and those forced sales push price lower still, a self-feeding decline. None of those orders carry a view on fundamentals. They carry a margin call.

So when you see a "crash," separate two things: did someone want to sell, or did someone have to sell? The first is information; the second is mechanics. To see this kind of move coming, watch funding rates and open interest before the drop (who is piling into leveraged longs), not the candle after it. Price is the worst fundamental gauge at a moment like this: it measures whose margin blows up first, not what Bitcoin is worth.

Falsifier: if the leverage has already been flushed (open interest down sharply, funding back to neutral) and price keeps falling at the same pace with no fresh liquidations, then this was genuine repricing, not a leverage stampede, and I'd change my call.

Research, not investment advice.
