# The AI memory boom reprices the RAM in your devices.

**In one line:** The AI memory boom reprices the RAM in your devices.

Memory stocks jumped Monday — but if you're buying a PC, phone, or RAM, the AI buildout is already in your price.

Here's who's bidding your memory away — and the one check to run this week ↓

OUR READ
The sold-out AI-memory shortage isn't just a sector tailwind — it's a cost transfer: memory is one shared pool, and data centers are bidding it away from the devices people buy.

WHAT HAPPENED
→ Oct 19: memory stocks rebounded from the prior week's AI rout — Micron +4%, SanDisk +7%, SK Hynix +5%, the memory ETF +5%, vs the Nasdaq-100's +1.6%.
→ Micron booked a record quarter: $54.23B, up from $11.32B a year earlier, ~$34B of it data-center memory; it says most 2027 high-bandwidth memory is already sold out at higher prices.
→ Gartner forecasts combined memory prices up ~130% by year-end, lifting PC prices ~17%; servers' share of DRAM has risen from ~25% to above 40%.

WHY IT MATTERS
The AI boom you can't invest in still shows up in the price of your next laptop.
HBM for AI chips earns fatter margins and eats ~3x the wafers per gigabyte, so makers steer capacity to it and consumer memory gets crowded out. The laptop buyer helps fund the data-center buildout.

BEST CASE AGAINST US
Memory is deeply cyclical; sold-out bookings have broken before. New capacity plus weaker demand — Gartner sees PC shipments fall — could roll prices back through 2027 — a spike, not a durable transfer.

DO THIS WEEK
If you planned to buy or upgrade a PC, phone, or RAM, compare today's price to six months ago before assuming it'll wait.
Research, not investment advice.

We'd revise if DRAM contract prices fall for two straight quarters and the projected ~17% PC price rise never appears.
