# Kalshi's odds are free; paying to trade them buys dependence, not sight.

**In one line:** Kalshi's odds are free; paying to trade them buys dependence, not sight.

![A bright sunlit meadow concept scene. A giant glowing arrow-shaped signpost stands tall, clearly readable and free to anyone. Beside it, a coin-operated tourist telescope on a post is aimed at that same arrow; a tiny faceless figure, seen from behind, drops a coin into the slot and peers through, paying to look at what is already visible for free above. A thin stream of amber coins trickles from the telescope's coin box into a bin on the ground.](https://wakenex.com/assets/notes/prediction-markets-in-your-broker-terminal-sell-paid/cover-1600.jpg?v=59a8c86a9c)

On Oct 29, Broadridge said Kalshi event contracts are now live on the trading front ends and APIs of its CQG unit, and reach more than 1,700 buy-side clients through the NYFIX network; brokers, FCMs and retail traders can now trade and hedge them inside one platform (PRNewswire, Oct 29). Kalshi's head of institutional put it plainly: prediction markets are "part of investors' trading toolkits, not separate from them."

Work it from first principles. The odds on a prediction market are a continuous, public, free forecast — you can read them without an account or a fee. The only genuinely new thing here is a one-click way to turn that view into a position. And the platform — the exchange plus the infrastructure vendor, Broadridge — earns on the flow; right or wrong, it collects the toll.

So this doesn't widen the options you can see; it deepens your dependence. It swaps reading the signal (exposure at almost zero cost) for trading the signal (fees, volatility, dependence). Unless you actually have event exposure to hedge, you are paying to act on a judgment that was already free.

What would change this: if independent data showed retail event-contract traders net-positive after fees, capturing information beyond the free odds, revise it. Until then, read the odds as a free forecast, not as a machine waiting for your coin. Research, not investment advice.
