# NetSuite now lets you swap the AI model, not the permission gate.

**In one line:** NetSuite's SuiteSkills lets you swap the model, not the permission gate.

![A bright sunlit marble plaza under a clear cyan sky. On the right, a massive marble vault bolted to bedrock has one heavy brass gate whose keyhole glows warm amber. In front of it, identical glowing glass spheres sit on a conveyor while a crane lifts one out and lowers an interchangeable replacement into the same slot; the spheres swap easily, the gate and vault never move. The left half is open empty plaza.](https://wakenex.com/assets/notes/netsuite-now-lets-you-swap-the-ai-model-not-the-permission/cover-1600.jpg?v=29be5950cc)

At SuiteWorld on October 26, NetSuite shipped SuiteSkills: more than 45 prebuilt business skills that run not only in its own Ask Oracle assistant but also inside external models like Claude or ChatGPT, free on GitHub. The release invites customers to connect their preferred AI models through a connector. It reads like freedom to pick any brain you want.

Now the fine print. Every skill reaches your data through the NetSuite AI Connector Service, "with access and actions governed by NetSuite's roles and permissions." NetSuite, it says, "remains the core system that connects and secures" your business "without compromising control over what people can access and do."

So the model is the swappable part. Trade Claude for ChatGPT next quarter and the connector, the permissions, and the system of record all stay put. What got wider is which AI you run, the layer that was always cheap to change. What stayed fixed is the costly layer: your data, and the gate that decides what any agent is allowed to touch.

This is the shape of the agent era. Salesforce and ServiceNow did it first; NetSuite follows. "Open to any AI" quietly commoditizes the model and re-centers the suite. The durable leverage sits with whoever owns the permission boundary around the data.

Before you adopt any "bring your own AI," settle one exit question: can you take the data and workflows out without that connector? If switching the model is a dropdown but leaving the suite is still a migration project, you rented a sharper tenant for someone else's building.

What would change my read: customers running these workflows against their own data outside the connector, or NetSuite's retention slipping as the model becomes where integration actually lives.
