# Cursor's cheaper bundle meters the model you code with.

**In one line:** Cursor's bundle meters the model you code with.

![A premium all-in-one toolbox sits open in cool shadow, every slot filled with its own matching tool — except one slot, left pointedly empty and outlined in blue. Under a single beam of awaken-blue light, the one tool that belongs in that slot stands outside the box on a pedestal, chained back to it and wired to a small meter whose needle is swung hard over — you can use it, but only while the meter runs.](https://wakenex.com/assets/notes/cursors-cheaper-bundle-doesnt-include-the-ai-you-code-with/cover-1600.jpg?v=bec7c17b65)

Its "all-in-one" plan leaves out the AI most devs actually use.

What the new price tag quietly bills you for ↓

OUR READ
A free tier and a $30 bundle look like a price cut. For a Claude-heavy solo dev it isn't one — the real bill just moved off the plan.

WHAT HAPPENED
→ On Oct 12 Cursor retired its old $20 Pro and launched the X Subscription: Free, Plus $8, Premium $30, Super $100, Ultra $200, bundling xAI's Grok.
→ Its pricing page says Premium and above give generous Grok use but "do not include an allowance for third-party models."
→ The official post adds that Claude and GPT are "billed separately at API list prices, through top-ups" — from the first request, and Claude only on Premium and up.

WHY IT MATTERS
The number everyone compares (the subscription) no longer contains the models that do most of the work. Your real cost becomes a variable, vendor-set pass-through, while the cheap path steers you onto the owner's own model.
An all-in-one coding bundle that meters the model you code with isn't all-in-one.

BEST CASE AGAINST US
If Grok handles your coding, $30 really does replace about $90 of separate plans and caps bound the risk — for you, nothing shifted.

DO THIS WEEK
If you use Cursor: price one real week of your work on the new tiers including metered Claude/GPT top-ups, and keep one model path (CLI or API) outside the editor so switching stays cheap.

This judgment flips if Cursor re-adds a third-party-model allowance to its paid plans, or usage data shows most subscribers never incur metered third-party charges.
